Today I fondly remember four times when autumn showed itself most clearly to me here in Italy and there in Slovenia.
Usually I have a look in the archives for such a challenge and take what calls out to me, but this time I had four days in mind already and only had to search them out. Let’s see:
- October 30, 2020: This was The Last Day I Saw Something New. After that a long lockdown began and I don’t think I went out of municipality until May. I spent this glorious day in Torre Alfina in Lazio alone with bestia and was not sorry for a moment.
- October 12, 2018: This was the first time I saw my childhood garden in autumn colours again after moving to Tuscany five years prior. I always go back to visit in the summer or winter, never in the spring or autumn. The view of the garden through my parents’ window, featured above, left me in awe.
- October 13, 2018: The second day of my visit sister took me to the Tivoli Park in the middle of Ljubljana and I remembered all the times I walked our first dog, or how I would park there and took the dog to the office with me. I worked for the magazine for Slovenians living abroad. Go figure.
- September 3, 2021: Most recently autumn announced it was coming in Padua three weeks ago. Only one tree was dressed for the occasion but it stole all the glances.
Here are the days in the above order. The first gets four photos, for all the rest there are two per each.
I’m excited because tomorrow we are going on another road trip to unknown places to the right of Lake Bolsena and I’m pretty sure colours will be in this palette and the ugly dry yellow of the land will be defeated by the gold of the trees.
This is the scene I drove into at Torre Alfina that afternoon: castle, golden trees, gelato. Win win win. (Plus street art too.) Right there in the parking lot. Before I left the light turned golden too. Time to return to Tuscany. I stopped on the road and reversed for this scene. (Kids… don’t!) The view of my uncle’s garden in Ljubljana, Slovenia, my hometown. Autumn turns it into a painting. One more of the garden from up close. Next day in the Tivoli Park in the middle of Ljubljana. This is the best thing to have in the city centre. The boy reminded me of… you know! Miss Tree 2021 of Padua If you are early, you are alone. Wait and everybody becomes the same.

Oh, Bojana, I know it’s your favourite. It’s good for leaves, but here the ground is yellow. For me it spells a dry desert. Can’t wait for it to start greening.

Like in Greece. And in Belgrade for a different reason. I love Italian and Greek yellow.

The angel drooped over the headstone! Golden images, Manja.

Ahh, thank you, Jo. 🙂 That angel surprised me because it looked so familiar. I thought it was off an album cover. It remains a mystery.

Thank you, Deborah. It’s a little early for these hues but we had a marvellous time. Some doors from this trip coming a bit later today.

Thank you, Crystal. I’m glad that our “forced” meeting break turned out alright. This tree surprised me because I forgot the autumn was near. It was too hot for that.

Hello there. Some trees are starting to turn in my region (southeast Pennsylvania), and the temperatures are much lower than they were during the summer. Autumn has arrived, and I’m glad about that. It’s my favorite season.
