Frankly, half of posts on my blog could have this title. For me, weird is absolutely wonderful and here is a collection of moments, finds and finally us being wonderfully weird, because Leya asked for it.
There is art, architecture, some statues, a funny name, some dogs, a snake (yes, yes, a real snake), an insect, some roadside attractions and it ends with four crazy people. These made the cut but frankly, I could go through my archives and choose twenty different ones in under a minute.
And also frankly, I could do the whole post from Giardino dei tarocchi by Niki de Saint Phalle alone. Here it is in the first photo below from the outside looking in for a change. And then we hop between Italy and Slovenia as is my habit if the year is good.
The featured photo is special. This was the door amore took me to see in Rome in the early days, even before I had eyes for doors as much as I do know. I love it that he knew even before I did what I’d soon begin to search out.
Be happy and stay weird, or other weirdos won’t be able to find you.
Passing by on a country road in southern Tuscany you can see this. Niki de Saint Phalle used to live here and create the world around her. Whereas these are Three Angels in Maribor in Slovenia. I found them extremely weird in an empty field, for Slovenian standards especially, but really sweet. The house like a melting candle. If you wish to find it: Via di San Pancrazio 6, Rome. Art in the botanical garden Corsini in Porto Ercole amid trees shot through by RAF in WW2. Sometimes a weird thing happens. These lights turned on just when we approached this church nearest our home. Still unclear if due to censors or chance. I stopped here in the middle of Tuscany to take photos of a valley and saw this. The river (which was dry) is called the same as number 6 in Slovenian language: Šestica. It’s also the name of the famous old inn in Ljubljana. Just weird. Why? I found this pavilion by the road in Piran and both mother and father, who live there, swear they never saw it before. It was like it had been built just for me overnight. This is weird but wonderfully educational. A float at the Orbetello Carnival two years ago: on the right how we pretend to be on social media and on the left how we truly are. A weird find on the street corner in Siena. Nothing ground-breaking, just the smallest dinosaur in Tuscany (above left). I was in a car passing like they are but had to turn around, park and take this photo. A shop near Tuscania selling garden ornaments. Well… I always thought of it as a cat but now I think it used to be a dog. In Castagneto Carducci. Whereas this was just behind our house in May last year. It is harmless but where is it going?? In Ljubljana we have different visitors. Caught under a glass for a quick photo shoot. I passed this scene on the shore of Lake Bracciano and took this photo for one reason alone. Check out his chest. Whereas this photo deserves a full story. One day soon… Her name is Roma. The owners of these two share so many weird facts. Always one to fool around. Amore getting new glasses years ago. We’ll have to go again. And now a clearly related trio: first my uncle in Orto Botanico Corsini. Art was to be devoured. Then his sister, my mother, in her and father’s garden in Piran. And finally me right there. No sour grapes, I bite.

Oh, Manja–that last photo! Yes, Bestia, mama is home. And maybe the guy in the back with the red hair missed you, too. 😂

Well, dearest Manja – I still love your mind and photographic eye…despite or thanks to all this weirdness! Love your images for this theme, and the one that totally freaked me out laughing was the dog that used to be a cat – or was it the other way around? 😀 ♥♥♥

Thank you, Leya, I knew you would understand. 🙂 I have always believed that we shouldn’t hold ourselves back nor hide our true colours. One never knows. Thank you.

You are so right – and the world would maybe be a better place if we said yes to our true colours. As a grown-up I have become better in doing this…always tried to be pleasing and do what was expected of me when I grew up, and as a young girl too. You are precious, Manja.

Ahh well said. However – probably I’d do well to be a bit more like you. 😉

A weird collection indeed. I was looking for my name! Lol…. Weirdest of all was the gorilla but with its context it is probably totally sensible.

Thank you, Amanda. That gorilla and wolf made me make sure that I was not dreaming.

It was a wolf?! I am not good at picking the difference between a dog and a wolf.

I love the three angels, in a field. I am glad the float was only a float and not a building.

Fun set! I like those impatient people who can’t wait for the grappa 🙂

Hihihh, thank you, I. J. In Italy they have grappa, but in Slovenia we make our schnapps out of all fruit there is and also from the salamander. (As in animal. True story.)

Such a great collection for Weird and wonderful. I found the Social media float with the man on the left quite interesting. That IS the way some people act, isn’t it? The large stone Three Angels were kind of strange too. Wonder why they are in an empty field? All in all, great collection! Donna

It is indeed, Donna. On our blogs we cannot hide many things. We are more of an open book. That’s why my blog is my preferred social medium. Please, have a look at one of my replies above and you will find a link to the post about the Three Angels where you can view them in total and they will make more sense. Thank you!
