Because sometimes you need doors that come with mom. These are the doors and more of Bežigrad in the north of Ljubljana, the capital of Slovenia.
All today’s photos were taken this summer five minutes or less from my parents’ house which was my home too for 20+ years. Even when I left, my new home was only a few houses to the right in the same street, right until I moved to Tuscany at 43+. So you see, I miss the doors of my youth.
Hi, mom! I love this colour combo. The urban jungle to the right. A mini library in our street. I had a plan to fill it up but didn’t. Some gates are more peculiar than others. Some entrances are more atypical than others. I’ve showed this one already but it has a gate on the right. It qualifies. Five days later, to put Splash into perspective. Friday afternoon and there was nobody. This is our scouts’ home. Not really scouts, their socialist counterparts, “taborniki”. I was a member. It appears the house is getting a major upgrade. Our division was called “Bičkova skala”, the Rock of Biček (or Bičko?). I have no idea who he was. If you walk to the main road, it’s full of these glass monsters. It used to be called Tito Rd. Now it’s Vienna Rd. If you drive enough far, Vienna it is. Not clear if their roof really hangs to the right or these are my mad photo skillz. Another atypical gate. In two weeks more books appeared and I did nothing, just clicked. Hi. There is a gate behind me. It qualifies. Back home. Back to mom. Not ours but I loved meeting him this summer and wish to show him again.

This day in my blogging history
2016: A tiny problem – 100 post-election words that came from my womb
“But… they are all women! What did I tell you? They love me!”
“No, Jefe. Their cycles synced up. They came to collect.” (Read in full.)
I am envious of your home and its longevity. Of course you must celebrate both mother and doors. (K)

Thank you, K. 🙂 They go together well.

These are wonderful doors, Manja. Of course, I’m partial to the photos that include your mom. I’m glad you gave her an encore. I hope you can get away with including a different dog. Maddie would not be pleased. I like the gates, and the little free library. I also like the selfie and the Splash reflection. It looks like you had a good time exploring your old stomping ground. I hope you’re having a good week.

Thank you, Dan. 🙂 I’m glad you like this mom-door mix. Bestia even approved of this little fellow and they were happy to see each other, which rarely happens with other males. He must be really young.

Nota bene: Bičkova skala is the most famous scene of the Battle of Dražgoše between the partisans and the Germans (actually mobilized from occupied Luxembourg) at the end of December 1941

Hahha! Excellent, thanks! But who or what was Biček or Bičko??

… and especially in early January 1942.

Biček is not a famous person, but a native, after whom this larger rock/rocks is named.

Hi mom!! Oh, that pup in your last photo. He needs a friend, Manja. Bestia has met this little one?

Mom says Hi, Lois! 😀 (I’m sure, she is in Slovenia.) Yes, I was with bestia and they greeted most happily. And he has a friend, a cat. 😀 See this post: https://manjameximexcessive6.wordpress.com/2021/08/28/friendly-friday-encounter/

Ahh, thank you, Teresa. Today I checked with her if she is reading all these nice comments in her favour. She said dad has been reading them to her. 🙂

The dog in the last shot certainly gave me a smile. What fun to see a bit of your former home town! I especially enjoyed the gate that looks like branches. Nice to see your mom as well.

Thank you for showing us around your childhood stomping ground, a sweet mom, interesting doors, and an adorable pooch at the end. Lovely post! I think we are both feeling nostalgic this week. 🙂

Great doors, and selfie! I think that overhang was tilted not your camera as everything else looked level. It was nice to see the little free library getting some love! 😀

Hi Manja! Your home city is beautiful, especially Mom. Those dogs are sweet but yours is just precious. Thanks for the tour. You’re right though. Tuscanny is very nice too. 😉

Thank you, Cheryl. Yesss, my mom and dog are extremely precious, actually priceless. 🙂 And I’m extremely grateful that I can travel between the two countries at least once a year. I hoped to go there in December again, but Slovenia is in an extreme pandemic situation again. 😦 They haven’t learned a thing in two years and are only 50% vaccinated.

It’s horrible. (I meant to say once a year, not once a day, of course. It’s fixed now.)

Ahh, how lovely! What all you gathered from this post. 🙂 I often show both Slovenia, where I’m from, and Italy, where I live now, on my blog. And I always post doors on Thursdays. Always welcome back. Thank you most kindly, Carol Ann!

Thank you, Denny! May I ask how you found this month-old post right now? Because you’re not the only one who liked it today. I’m just curious if it was shared somewhere or you ended up there by chance.

Now and again I simply search Thursday Doors to catch up when I’ve been ‘away’. I hate missing the many terrific doors our community of door lovers post so try to go backward when I can.
