For Cee’s Fun Foto Challenge: Which Way
and for Which Way Photo Challenge, hosted by San at Alive and Trekking
This day in my blogging history
2016: Never compromise yourself. You are all you’ve got. —Janis Joplin. Happy birthday, Janis!
2018: The story of me, Janis and Bobby (stopped smoking in 2007 for good)
2019: A new blanket of spring (with the puddle for Sunra Nina)
2020: Spots and pointy things with a poem:
.
A Spot of Blood
.
I spot a spot of blood.
It is on the floor next to our furnace,
right where I just got dressed after the shower.I think:
nothing hurts. My child-bearing years are over,
or are they?My body is in limbo,
it doesn’t know which way to go.But no more bleeding.
At least I thought it was over. That spot is there though,
waiting to be investigated.
Knowing I will. But he had a shower too, just earlier.
What if it was him?
Which is even scarier.Or the dog?
I spot another spot.
On the way from the bathroom.
This is serious.I go to look in the mirror.
My face is slightly panicky
but intact.Had to be him then.
Gloomy thoughts.I tear a single white sheet
off the toilet paper rolland wipe.
Immediately I see that something is not right.
Instead of the hue I learned to expect
there is a purple tinge.Yes, I have just put my last night’s wine glass away.
Why do you ask?
It seemed empty to me…And so I danced.
Ha ha ha! Thank you for the pretty puddle! Plus a great shot of you with a mic. Reading a poem, I imagine? Shame I can’t hear a sound bite! 😊

Nope, singing Me and Bobby McGee. 😀 Have never made a recording though. Now that I don’t smoke anymore, I don’t have the voice for it… Thanks, Sunra Nina. Glad to provide a puddle.

And yet I still need to hear that!! I love a go at karaoke when I’ve had a couple. It’s a shame my go-to is never the right key for me (often Frank Sinatra for some reason)!

Great signs! I especially liked the Happy House one. I finally quit smoking when I was 27…it was hard but, oh. so. worth it!

Ah yes, excellent, Deborah! I was 37 when I quit. Best things that we did. Thank you, the Happy House is in Pisa. 🙂

What fascinating signs! I’ve never been to that part of the world. Thanks for sharing. 🙂

Thank you, lily! Here you have a bit of Rome and Pisa (in the first row), the dog choosing and the beach (second row) are from near me in Tuscany, and the last three are from Slovenia. So you can choose what to visit. 🙂

Thanks for telling me, Not Pam. Your comment landed in spam. It may have seemed that I have deleted it! See, this is my brain on a regular basis, in information overload mode, and I do my best to project that on my blog. 😀

I think I’ll follow the arrow to the beach. (K)

Good choice, K. Is it clear that the sign points to the beach for dogs? Humans welcome too though 🙂

❤️ ❤️ ❤️ your poem (A Spot of Blood). I am so glad I found my way here from This Day in My Blogging History! It captures so many emotions & the panic!
And I am again reminded how translation work is a challenging and vocation to get it right by capturing the intent of the author!
P/S I left this message on your original post then realised the Blog was closed. So I copied it here.

Thank you, Ju-Lyn. My five previous blogs are closed, meaning no new posts are added there, but you can still comment. This poem, A Spot of Blood, is not a translation. I wrote it. 🙂 It really happened this way.

Mare… … If someone asks, that’s where I’ll be. As always, lovely my friend. No, I missed reading this one. Sometimes I space out. Thanks for directing me here (all those signs– signposts– glad I found Mare.) And I see the end line.
Oh, my, yes. Same words. Great minds, huh? I’m honored to be in your company.
Hope the situation you mention in the poem has been resolved. Be well, my lovely. Stay sweet.

Thank you, Selma! Oh yes, mare is the direction to take. 🙂 I think it’s just great that we both chose to dance. The situation in my poem? The drop of blood was actually wine, I hope this is clear. As for my child-bearing years, the pandemic is good for one thing: it makes one forget her menopause.

I concur, Amiga. Let’s keep dancing. No one’s looking anyway… I’ll be thinking of you. Good night from Japan. Chilly night. Perfect for sleep.

I love that image of you singing Me and Bobby McGee. Leaning back, eyes closed, LIVING the words!

This is the way to do it. 🙂 I’m glad that you recognize the feeling. I have Your Mother’s Pattern opened right here, and sooner or later I’ll read them all. Thanks, Carol Ann!
