PPAC: Prekmurje 5. – Lendava Cultural Centre

Do you feel it? A good day. Spring and victories in the air. And one happening building with wings.

We are still in Prekmurje, in the head of the chicken which is Slovenia on the map. If you don’t believe me, have a look at my last Thursday Doors post with several doors from this region, including the entrance of the building I’m featuring today, the funky Lendava Cultural Centre.

It was built during 1995 and 2004 from the design by Hungarian architect Imre Makovecz. Both governments, of Slovenia and Hungary, as well as the Lendava Municipality helped overcome financial difficulties to finalise its construction. It holds a theatre and concert hall but when we were there in the summer of 2019 we didn’t get to see it, only the foyer.

And while you are admiring its wings, think of this: after the first Olympic day, Slovenia, the land of 2 million people, has one gold and one bronze, in the same sport, ski jumping for ladies. Fearless we are. ❤

This after Luka with Dallas Mavericks had ONE HEKK of a game against the Philadelphia 76ers. Just when I intended to go to sleep at 6am, at the halftime, since the game dragged on after Luka had pointed out that the hoop was askew and they had to change the entire construction (!), and it looked like the Mavs had zero chance against huge bouncy opponents, in the second half everything changed. Like this:

Ahh. Today is a good day. Even though, didn’t the Sixers more or less just watch the Mavs’ show the entire second half? WHY DIDN’T THEY DO ANYTHING??

Anyway… look at this Olympic medal table after Day 1. Where is the USA? Finland? Great Britain? Ah, how cute, look at Germany, Canada, China down below… (Hihihi!! Excuse me. Busy kissing the sky.)

Back to reality. Welcome to Lendava! If you ever go there, ask our neighbours Hungary why they are busy buying off every Slovenian hotel on the seaside lately. Is it because they don’t have any sea? Will we form Austro-Hungary again?

I don’t have any other info, so today we walk through the photos in peace and quiet. As for fracking, it is yet to be outlawed by the Parliament…

A Slovenian in Italy for love. Blogger, photographer, translator and would-be writer who would be a writer if she wrote. Plus reluctant but emerging poet. Beware.

    1. Thank you, Selma! 🙂 Another gold medal today for Slovenia in mixed team ski jumping, a competition marked by numerous disqualifications (which Slovenia would most probably have won anyway), including the Japanese girl. How can it be?

  1. Manja, the cultural center is lovely. What a lot of opportunities for doorfies, and I didn’t see even one! The ceiling and the benches are amazing. What is the significance of the four capitals building? It looks like it’s been bombed? Had to look up fracking. I learn so much reading blogs. 🙂 Thanks for all the metions including the one in Thursday Doors. 🙂

    1. Hahha, bombed? The architect would not be too happy to read this. Ahhh, you mean the other building from the blogging memories! That is ancient Rome and it was never bombed. 😀 I’m glad you had a look at fracking. You are right, we do learn a lot on here.

    1. Hihihi, Curt. It’s just that there is rarely a reason for it. Today again, though! Another gold medal in ski jumping was added. 😉 As for Luka, the fact that he is Slovenian is the least exciting thing about him. 😀 Thank you!
