Pic and a Word #300: Studio City

Here is a poem with more than one pic from my city of origin where ugly things are happening. But it looks really lovely.

Studio City

After 30 years
my favourite program
on national TV Slovenia,
a rare one
that still gives a damn
and is still worth a damn,
is losing funds,
collaborators,
hope of continuing much longer
due to restrictive government politics,
shutting up of media in full effect,
kill-off of culture,
swan song of truth-sayers
as threatened long ago.

And only now I realise
that in my language
the name of the show,
Studio City,
sounds like
Studio Si Ti.

Studio Are You.

The city in question is Ljubljana, the capital of Slovenia, my city of birth. Here it is in my favourite images taken from mid July to mid August last year, the last time I was there. The photos start in the centre and narrow down to Bežigrad where I grew up and spent most of last summer.

Special alert to the first photo. Dallas Mavericks paid a (poorly proofread) ad for Luka Dončić in his own city. But why? Here we all know he is god. And in three hours they play again.

A Slovenian in Italy for love. Blogger, photographer, translator and would-be writer who would be a writer if she wrote. Plus reluctant but emerging poet. Beware.

  1. That stick figure fam thing made me laugh. I was behind a car that had a family of zombies on the window that said, “Our family ate your stick family.” Oh, gosh… 💀

  2. Love all your photos. But I understand how nostalgic it must be. Why do these things happen to people and places? Breaks my heart. Thanks for sharing.

Still your athletes are rocking it in Beijing. Wow. Congrats sincerely. I think of you (and Vesela) when I see an athlete from Slovenia.
    Go go go. Yay.
    Bless you. xoxo

  3. Cor blimey, I’ve fallen behind with your posts again, I’ll have to claw my way back up! Bee-yoo-tee-ful shots, as ever. Sometimes I can’t decide if I like your captions more than the images. Love the ‘window of plenty’ shot, that’s someone’s book cover right there 🙂 I enjoyed your poem too.

    1. Yeah, I love it when you do your tour, Sunra Nina! Thank you! That window of plenty is also in Ljubljana and I love it how it came up in history on the perfect day for it. No need to decide on one or the other, just take them both. 😉
