It’s that time again when I look back a year and select twenty glimpses from the same month a year ago to see what is coming. Looking forward to birds and poppies.
The photos have been left in the order as taken on purpose, so that you can stroll through the month with me as it happened, counting birds, bestias and flowers, especially poppies, because really, there was not much else to do.
Just right for today as it is March 8th, International Women’s Day. My flowers – the best kind as they are still growing – go to all the women since all of us are still growing all the time as well, and I don’t mean (only) in waist.
A few surprises are included, especially that red delivery. Don’t you love it when it’s just in time.
This tree is still sleeping. This one is bursting forth (I’m not sure about the variety). Here you are! I thought you’d never come. Be a Porsche in the land of Ferraris. (No relation, just a surprising view from our garden, especially in pandemic times.) This one has been teasing me for a while before I got it. It’s a hoopoe. It makes a pretty sound and wing pattern in the air. On the way to the beach. (It’s behind the camera. You can see that the sea is almost higher up than these fields. They will be the first to go.) Contemplation room. Hey there! Are you a wild child or a pet? Other rabbits are different. You are so pretty. Since I’m not a bird expert, I give them Italian names. This one looks like a Giovanni. I always admire this growth when I pass it. I wish to be one of these flowers. The top of a tall tree. The pandemic made me do my best not to run out of subjects. Here we go! The first poppy: March 23 2021. It looks like a true fighter, beating all the odds. Just like Luka and the Mavs. (They are 5:0 in the last five games.) A cocktail sunset. One (1) insect. Hurrah! Another inviting neighbourhood. She is rarely around. Another new growth. My friend. She always comes over and lets me rub her nose. No hard feelings, bestia. You’re my BEST friend. One week later, the last day of March, and the poppies have doubled.

This day in my blogging history
There is a you-shaped hole
in my life,
and it takes all of you
to fill it up. (Read all.)
Beautiful, Manja.
What an unusual bird, that one with a long beak.
I’d make use of a contemplation room like that.

Thank you, Bojana. Does the word pupavac mean anything to you? Wiki says Croatians call the bird this. In Slovenian it’s smrdokavra, because it defends with its faeces. 😀 Yes, this is a room with a good view.

Oh that’s funny.
It doesn’t mean anything but then I don’t know anything about birds. Possibly we use it too.

You have shared some great pictures here. I love the single poppy and the hoopoe. I raised one when I was 18 years old. It’s mother and siblings were killed by dogs and I saved one.

Oh my, Roberta! How touching! Did you let it go or keep it around? Did it return sometimes? What a lovely thing to do! ❤ And thank you!

HI Manja, eventually it flew away and found a mate. It used to fly freely around the house, we never kept it captive and it always came and went. One day, it didn’t come home and I saw the nest a while later. Hoopie did stay around our house though.

Ruthless. Astonishing images Manja

An interesting word, Narayan. 🙂 What exactly did you find ruthless? My camera, nature or my commentary? 🙂 I hope not me as such. No pity or compassion? Ahh! 😉 Thank you, I’m glad you like my March.

Being an image maker myself sometimes I have observed myself being complacent or even compromising myself in ways hesitating to make an image when I must. With your work I found you are going after it. The moment as it must be arriving you are taking it. In one word I could only think of Ruthless.
Thank you again though for sharing

I had a dream about one once, even though I had never seen one–when I looked for the bird in my dream online, there it was! It still seems like magic.

Lovely to be reminded what spring looks like, although we don’t see poppies here as early as March, even late March – for those we will have to wait a little longer! And thank yo for including a sweet cat 😻

The Contemplation Room is a great shot. I can see it as a mural. Who would need paint or pictures with this on the wall?

That’s a lovely thought, Aimer. Thanks! I’d love to see a big beautiful loft with this image on one wall.

So many great images (and stories!). I particularly love the single poppy (what a splendid composition), your friend awaiting a pet on the nose, and the contemplation room. And to add to the delight, I see the Mavs are creeping up in the standings…..

Thank you, Carol Ann! 🙂 I’m glad you like my photo stories. The Mavs are 5th, trying to reach the 4th spot and home court advantage in the playoffs… Still quite a lot of games till then though.
