Thursday Doors 31/3/22: Villa di Radi 1.

We have reached the third and last property that I visited on an open-door day last May. This time we go to Radi with a glimpse of Siena on the way and land in Villa di Radi with rich history. Here is the first part of its doors.

This is how I proceeded when I left the lovely garden number 2 at Castello Poggiarello. During the half an hour drive to Radi I just had to stop, even though I was running late. The landscape was brilliant, there was Siena in the distance… just what one expects from Tuscany.

When I parked in Radi, I caught up with the group, filled in a form with my details in case of a Covid-19 outbreak, and off we walked on the private road, first to a villa with the swimming pool, and then to the main building with the magnificent view, practically a castle.

This place has a rich history, as you can read here. It has already been known in the… wait for it… 10th century!! You can also get married there. Not much interested in either but you may be.

Yesterday was my 8th blogoversary, that’s why my blogging memories at the end are even more extensive than usually. Silent all those years, I clearly wanted to say and show everything at once.

And tomorrow… tomorrow is April 1st, time for the first poem of the poem-a-day month. Bear and bare with me.

This day in my blogging history

On this day in 2014 – my second blogging day ever – I posted EIGHT TIMES! What was I thinking? The thing is that I first posted these and some other writings on another platform but soon realised that without likes or comments or other ways of connecting with my readers blogging would make little sense to me.

That’s why I moved to WordPress and haven’t looked back since. These four posts from this day in 2014 probably tell you more about me that you should know. Was everybody this chatty and spilling and forthright at the start?

  1. I love the well in the top image, and that shade of yellow of a lot of the homes and buildings is my favorite. It’s so mellow and cheerful at the same time, and in golden hour…just stunning. It’s my second favorite color as you know green is my most favorite like you.

I love the watercolor painting of you!! It’s so good!

Happy Blogaversary, Manja!!!! I’m looking forward to many more years of reading your stories, poems, and adventures.

  2. Beautiful photos but it did look a little unrealistic. I kept waiting to see the overturned wheelbarrow 😉

  3. Happy Anniversary 🙂 I’m with Lois, we should have cake. I’m sad to see you moving on from this area (except I know you’ll find many more lovely doors to share with us). You have brought us a collection of beautiful doors today, Manja. Thanks for sharing them!

  4. I agree, you had to stop and take that photo.
Is that a little car above the garage doors?
Just thinking about posting 8 times is exhausting. But your enthusiasm continues to be contagious. (K)

  5. Is that your mom as a chickster standing with the snow-covered branch? What a beauty! I had to laugh when I looked below that and saw your confused-looking face behind a plant pot! I’m sure it was incidental but the juxtaposition tickled me 🙂

And your phrase “silent all these years” brought to mind this throwback:

    1. Yes, that is my mom and if you look, you’ll notice me in red behind her. And yes, I noticed how funny these two photos are together. I was not confused though! I was happy with my first friends on a visit in Tuscany. 🙂 And when I wrote these words, I thought of this song which I haven’t heard in a long while, so thanks for that.

      1. I didn’t even notice the red figure in the back! I don’t know why but now I see it I find it hilarious! You’re like one of Santa’s elves in the most adorable way!

  6. I particularly love the image of flowers and bricks. The composition both inspires and soothes me. And the photo of your Mom is simply splendid. It deserves a frame and a place of honor! And the sunset portfolio is magnificent. Please repost it again and again.

    1. Thank you, Carol Ann. 🙂 I’m so glad that my images can soothe. Yes, I love her photo too. Did you notice me in red in the back? I’m glad that you like the sunsets. There is a rare sunrise among them as well.

  7. Those views at the beginning were so worth being late for. Magnificent. Such a busy open door last May. So wonderful. I love the old photos of you that show the joy in your face year after year. And like everyone else said, that photo of your mom is so beautiful. There she looks so much like your sister, I thought it was her at first.

    1. Ahh, thank you, Crystal! 🙂 Interesting that you see such a resemblance. Yes, I had to stop there. And the thing is that I know there are views like this everywhere around me right now and still don’t drive anywhere. 😦 This makes me sad.
