Thursday Doors with a view 30/6/22: Piran

Today’s doors, all taken this month in Piran, come with some sort of view, be it of the sea, of the town below, through the arch, or in a reflection.

Welcome to join me on a stroll through Piran with the views I get on my dog walks. And the doors, the doors are always here somewhere.

In seven hours or so I’ll put on my Pearl Jam “Don’t Give Up” shirt and walk with mother for some 15 minutes to the sold-out Stožice Arena, where Slovenian national basketball team with Luka Dončić and Goran Dragić (who returns to the national team five years after he was the MVP of the 2017 Euro Championship which Slovenia won without a loss) is playing against Croatia for a spot in the World Cup next year.

This will be my first Luka sighting. Everybody who has been following my cheerleading on this blog since February or so will know how much this means to me. I wish you a most excellent day too, and the month of July which starts tomorrow.

A Slovenian in Italy for love. Blogger, photographer, translator and would-be writer who would be a writer if she wrote. Plus reluctant but emerging poet. Beware.

    1. Thank you, Dan! I’m glad I picked a good door theme. Oh yes, Luka & co. went go go go all the way and gave us a most memorable night. I can’t believe tomorrow will be another Thursday already!! Time runs differently here in Slovenia.

  1. I am so in love with Piran. What a privilege to see it through your loving and artistic eyes. The feature photo simply took my breath away. I hope you consider it a contender for your annual calendar.

By now you thrilled to all of Luka’s astonishing play. I’m so happy for you! Go, Luka! Go,Team Slovenia!

  2. A most attractive gallery and lots of excellent views. I bet you had a great time at the game. Do you follow the Tour de France? Just started today and although Slovenia doesn’t have lots of pro cyclists, they have the best in the world right now! 🙂

    1. Thank you, Janet. Oh yes, we’ve been following the Tour and saw that magnificent win by Pogi (as Pogačar is nicknamed) a couple of days ago. I still can’t quite believe what Slovenia, such a tiny country, has been achieving in cycling in the last few years. I’m glad that our guys have your attention too. 🙂 All well, to them and to you.

    1. Thank you, Sunra Nina. 🙂 Quite, the purpose of the door itself! That’s a title!! To what – we shall see. I’m not feeling very creative lately and haven’t written a line for more than a month. Slovenian greatest poem Tomaž Šalamun has a book of poetry entitled The Purpose of a Cloak (I saw this title in English also as The Purpose of a Cape and The Use of a Cloak, and if you ever come across any of these – pounce). (By the way – I sent you an email, have you seen it?)

      1. Manja!!!!! Thank you for messaging me and prompting me to check – I did get it, it fell into my junk but I’ve replied now! Thank you for that wonderful recommendation, it sounds so intriguing and right up my street. I shall indeed pounce if I come across it. 🙂 ❤
