As I was choosing photos for my most recent 2021 Calendar post, many doors obediently popped up, begging me to make a Thursday Doors post with them. Who am I to say no.
Here they are then, the majority from Ljubljana, a few from Maribor, Slovenia’s city #2, and the last five from Italy to where last year I returned in the middle of the month with uncle. This August I’m still in Slovenia.
You may have seen most of them already, but I’d like to show them together again. Every month with such a varied door crop is a good month.
And yes, I admit that I had them ready to post already last Thursday but then I remembered that there was a doorliday. I hope you all spent it well.
Welcome back to last August then. Let’s start in Ljubljana where it all started, if you ask me.
If you see this, you may as well ring the bell and bestia will bark hello. Another adorable bestia nearby. A bushy door with uneven roof. This was my scout-like troupe headquarters. It still looks remarkably the same. A goal is a door too. I always admire how they enabled basketball and mini soccer and handball in the same court. Splash is right, and I like the envelope-shaped gate. When a secret location, full of wall art, was photo-raided. Here the piece points to where to proceed to the next level. I only noticed this at home. Next door is the Stožice Arena which I finally entered this June to see Luka & Co. kick major ass and almost caught his shirt. Whereas this is the prettiest dining room I know in person. You need to know a certain D. to enter. A bar at the top of Orle above Ljubljana where the last shots were fired before the liberation of the city in 1945. Where my poet friend took us to lunch. Kašča Jurček. I love it when they think of doors. Nearby was this Italian-looking church that I never approached before in all my 40+ years. Our Lady of Help Parish Church in Rakovnik. CAT is for DAN. Then dad took me to his Maribor. I never saw Betnava Castle before either. Nearby the bees have these doors with a bee alert. A Maribor door with a twist. And we are back to Italy, but you knew that from the presentation of this museum in Cerveteri. Cerveteri door music. I was here on a day trip with Flavia and took photos of her among these flowers. Whereas this is the nearest church to my home in Capalbio Scalo. Maybe I will enter it one day. Spazio amato, “beloved space”, spell the big letters next to Lake Burano that light up at night. Soon again.

I’m glad you shared them again, I don’t think I’d seen them all before. The secret location has to be my favourite but it is hard to pick one, they are all beautifully photographed.

We really do love seeing your beautiful doors! Never too many times, I’d say. My favorites probably change, but right now I’m going with the wooden doors opening unto the cobblestone patio.
