Thursday Doors 12/1/23: Rome – Monteverde 1.

Here are some doors and views from Rome, taken one year ago. Nothing fancy nor old, just doors well used and well lived.

Monteverde, the district of Rome where amore’s father lives, reminds me of New York, not that I’ve ever visited it. It’s multicultural, not particularly rich and not particularly clean. It has green parrots, scavenger seagulls and roaming boar. (I saw two with my own eyes – but not with the camera – this Christmas. They had police escort.)

Whatever it is, I take it, since this is the only part of Rome I get to see. Why, you ask? Well… I’m a guest, and the locals are not feeling particularly touristy. And they prefer cooking to eating out. So I walk bestia around the hood, greet the doors that I know all too well by now, and occasionally click.

The photos in today’s post are from two visits in January and February last year. Another post from Monteverde in November and December will follow next week.

It starts on the Aurelia fast road by the sea. The drive takes about an hour and a half past Tarquinia and Civitavecchia. I remember how surprised I was when in Rome for the first time. I thought it was in the middle of Italy and not just 50 km from the sea.

  1. These are great doors and photos. I love the photo where you mention the light in Rome tear round. I also like the gates and the scary building. I have exhausted the nearby doors to me. I have to plan some trips this year specifically to generate some new door stock.

    1. Thank you, Darlene. I’ve been posting Italian doors all my 7 years of taking part in Thursday Doors, and agree that Italy has the best doors. This post is not the best example. These are much newer than the ones I usually notice and photograph.

      1. I am fine. Trying to exercise more and lose weightlike most people who overindulge during Christmas. Without sugar or bread it’s coming off about a tenth of a pound every six or seven days.
