As a step away from my immediate doors here is a compilation post of homes with the strongest appeal, captured in the last ten years in Italy and Slovenia, my roaming grounds. Unsurprisingly, most of them are guarded by green doors.
I used to do them often, such compilations, but not in a while. Let it be one today, I say, since two challenges call for houses and doors – not just Dan but also Cee – and since today it is my blogoversary! It is NINE years since I started blogging (with this sad post).
True, doors keep me afloat these days, I rarely post anything else. But in two days April begins and with it my daily poem for NaPoWriMo. One never knows what this may bring. Stay near and let’s find out.
So today I made a selection of my favourite houses. This may be because of their doors (most often), location or simply light. Welcome to my dream homes, and two real ones at the end.
Let’s start on an island. Home with the private beach. And then she is reading. Isola del Giglio. I noticed it on my first visit. By the Orbetello lagoon. I know… the mosquitos. Nearby in Porto Ercole. And the mold! A detail from the previous photo. Cat and stones. My uncle on his first visit here in Capalbio. Amore was still able to trick me by wearing my hippie shirts. My parents on one of their first visits. In Monticiano. Siena is a place to be. All of it. We found this house on top of Scarlino. Not sure if it’s a holiday home or museum. A favourite in Orbetello. I wish to know who lives here. By the entrance to the WWF nature reserve Lago di Burano. To Rome now. A favourite in Monteverde where amore’s father lives. Another Monteverde beauty. I wouldn’t mind the scooter noise and derelict outlook. Trastevere in Rome is happening. The light knows. Niki de Saint Phalle’s living room in her Tarot Garden (Il giardino dei tarocchi). But soon she dug further underground. Too disco even for her. Let’s end in Slovenia. This submarine door in Ljubljana is mighty cool. As is this magnificent entrance. How come I didn’t notice it in all my 40+ years of living in Ljubljana? Flavia had to post it on her blog first. Spotted in Gozd Martuljek underneath the Julian Alps. I could move right in. This artist’s home is in Piran on the coast. The sea opposite has exactly this colour. The other entrance to the same home. But… BUT! Nothing will ever top this. 4b in Piran, here I come! And this is what I see when I open my eyes in the morning. Good morning, Tuscany!
For Thursday Doors challenge hosted by Dan at No Facilities

and for Cee’s Fun Foto Challenge: Things People Live In

Ever so fabulous Manja. I love the blue-green colours on some of the doors. So many adventures to wonderful places 😛

Thank you, bushboy. It seems that this colour is the favourite of mine. Who knows why…

Happy blogoversary, Manja. I love the compilation of doors, and I am so glad you joined Cee and me in this combined challenge. I am looking forward to your poetry but I hope you save some creativity for the Thursday Doors writing challenge in May (you only have to write one thing, although you can write more),

Thank you, Dan. Don’t worry, I’m sure I will find again a door photo (or more) that will spin my writing wheels. This challenge came just in time. Always welcome to the daily poem.

I do like that Orbetello green door. And the Pirin sea door. I will be happy to read your poetry every day again! (K)

I’m doing it on kblog. I’m so overwhelmed I can’t get it posted on the NaPoWriMo site.

It’s a shame because your lovely poems are missing out on readers. Most people only look there.

I know. I’m also so late in posting that most people wouldn’t see it anyway. Maybe today I can get it together before the moon rises.

Thank you, Patricia. If you ever visit Ljubljana, tell me and we will knock on that door and explain. 🙂

Take me to that little cove and leave me there. I could sit on those steps for hours, Manja. But what a fabulous collection of doors and places! Nothing there that’s not to love.

Oh Jo, wonderful, let’s go there together. But when I passed that cove, I didn’t feel it would be proper to join that lady in her private sea. 😀 Thank you, I’m glad you like them all.

A lovely response, Sue. 🙂 I often feel that I lack this kind of incentive. Possibly that’s why I blog… Thank you!

Since you wrote in the caption of the lovely green door that you wish to know who lives there, I have an idea for Thursday Doors 2.0. In this new edition of the challenge, you pick just one door, the most interesting one, you ring the doorbell and interview whoever lives there 😊

This is a most excellent idea, SMSW. For an extrovert, that is. 😉 When I was a journalist, I hated this part the most, bother people with my questions, even though it was clear that they were happy to talk. I can always do that with my last two photos though… But no, it’s true, I am curious about certain people behind the doors, it’s just that they might not take it so well to know that their doors are all over the internet. 😀

Thank you, Suzette. 🙂 I wonder what the persons living behind the submarine door said if they knew we call it thus. 😀

Thank you, Smitha! I’m glad it reads like a story. Of my parallel lives. 🙂 Some of my all-time favourites are included here.
