This post is a day late but my Slovenian summer is coming to a close and I wished to make a compilation as a memory aid. Here are my people and places and doors to last me through the year.
I find it hard to believe that my stay in Slovenia is almost over already, and my mother thinks the same. Still, I’ve been lucky to be able to remain as long as I have.
There have been a couple of concerts, a daytrip to Rovinj, Pazin and spa town Istarske Toplice in Croatia, a trip to Jezersko in the mountains where our family friends have an amazing view from their terrace, a few visits of Izola and Ljubljana and hanging out with sister and friends, a couple of card tournaments, but the majority of my time was spent in Piran by the ever warmer sea with my parents, almost an entire season of Masterchef Australia, and lots of – eagerly expected, vigorous, ambiguous, ambitious, hard-hitting, loud, but eventually disappointing – basketball. Life is hard when top eight in the world doesn’t quite cut it.
There is a door-like structure or at least a window in all these 20 photos, but they are not the stars. The emphasis is on my people, to remember all the good times we had.
Because in two days I will be back in Tuscany and by then we will know not only whether kings of the world are Germany or Serbia, but also who won the match between Slovenia or Italy, seeing that tomorrow they play for the 7th place. Clearly we belong together.
Let’s start in Rovinj, a Croatian jewel, which brought me many doors that will appear on my blog in the following weeks.

A doorway into Rovinj.
Amore was with me the first two weeks of my stay.
Mother was happy, even though her shoes were so slippery that she preferred to carry them.
Father knows where to stop.
A brown ensemble.
These streets have been walked up and down a lot.
Coming down from the largest Rovinj church.
A truly fine combination, Rovinj!
Next was Pazin and a little rest.
I was SO thirsty and no bar was in sight. Instead we found a museum.
The trip ended at Istarske Toplice with refreshed parents in not really warm water.
The start of the next trip. I love this view. Mountains, here we come. It was quite fresh, for summer.
The view from our friends’ terrace at Jezersko next to the border with Austria.
The pretty lake nearby where we had lunch.
Next: The castle at Preddvor is abandoned and the once pretty lake opposite was full of debris and trash.
Back to Piran. The door to the boat that took us to Izola. Bestia didn’t trust this plank at first.
Douglas seems to be fighting this door. He is Scottish, that might explain it.
Parents with the exact same bush that amore’s father gifted them from his garden in Rome.
Following sister and friend in Ljubljana.
And for the end, half of me in an art window in Izola. Be well!

Doors are fine, and these are good ones, but I always like seeing your family. Safe travels on your way home.

Lovely, Manja. Your parents are the best.
I especially like that little turquoise door. with the curvy ironwork.
I hope Italy will be cooled down for your return. (K)

What a lovely post,Manja. Your parents seem so much fun. The view from your friend’s terrace is beautiful and the picture of the uphill road. You’ve had a full holiday, traveling to so many places and meeting friends and family. Thank you for taking us along.
