I have to search for people in my photos with a torch if you don’t count my tribe. Animals are better represented. Here is a careful selection of 25 times I shot both since my last candid post.
It was this one, my Can? Did! post from 2019, and looking at it now I’m amazed how many strangers I let into my frame. Today there are not as many: only the first six photos are of unknown (and unasked) people.
They are followed by a variety of animals who clearly knew I was there but didn’t care one way or another. The majority of them are from near me in Tuscany, a couple from a farm in Lazio which Flavia and I visited last October, and the last two dogs – bestia and his not-really-love-interest – were captured in Slovenia.
The gallery concludes with my people – amore, my family and friends – and a couple of selfies.
And look, there is Captain Hook in blogging memories, just perfect for today.
There you can also learn that today marks 14 years since I stopped smoking – one of the best things I’ve ever done.
The date is good for it too. Happy November 1st and mortacci tua (your dead people), which is something you must never ever say to a Roman.
A reluctant cow at the Orbetello Carnival. (Didn’t last long. She soon started to enjoy it.) “I’d rather be making art than selling it.” Grožnjan, Croatia. A drone-flying nun. Janua Coeli Monastery. “Who enters dies” on the door. A 2CV at the Fiat 500 meet, Capalbio Scalo. Game Over, and she knows it. Isola del Giglio. Boys on the right, girls on the left, bestia undecided. Isola del Giglio. Such tender ears. This May next to our trash containers. Nutria is the future. Orbetello lagoon. A balancing cat. Glorious goat in the flowers. Beat this. Our neighbouring donkey this May. Watching the world go by. Canale Monterano. Posing for Flavia on a farm near Farnese. Right there. The smartest dogs, they say. Bestia on watch in Ljubljana. (Photo: sis) Her name is Joy and she is a bundle of it. This was in a hotel. Don’t tell them. On a stroll in Piran. Lunch with uncle in Colle di Val d’Elsa. Farewell dinner with Crystal and Pedro in Fiumicino. Haha. I miss getaways with Flavia! I think this was in Viterbo. Season of the witch. Stylish sis on her birthday this year in Piran. Don’t call her mother. Uma Thurman in Pulp Fiction. (Photo: Dad) I took many photos of many people from this spot but she slays. Pitigliano and Tili.

This day in my blogging history
2015: Today marks eight years since I stopped smoking (that means 14 by now)
Pigeons are so irreverent! Thanks for sharing your lively photos, Manja.

Hi, Judy, good to see you around! I’m glad you call them lively. These pigeons came into my blogging history on the right candid day. 🙂

That’s quite the collection of photos, Manja. I prefer animals to people as well.

Captain Hook is absolutely perfect. Also the pigeons. Your animals are always welcome. (K)

Thank you, K. 🙂 I clearly have eyes for all beasties. And for Captain Hook. 😀 He called himself Very Old Man. 😀 😀

I think Very Old is a ways off.

I love the animal photos! Don’t tell Fonzi about the “smartest dog” thing.

Hahah, this made me laugh, Dan. Thanks. In his photo Fonzi looks like he is trying to see if there is anybody smarter than him out there. 😀

Those are great selections for showing us the times you photographed people and animals. I loved the donkey in the flowers.

So many good photos, Manja! I had to laugh at the hotel photo. Yes, Bestia does need a nice soft pillow! And the pigeons on the statues–what a hoot!

Thank you, Emma. We can spot a rare one here and there around here. I used to know a Citroen freak in Slovenia who collected them and knew everything about them. 🙂

I used to have a friend that had one.

You should try candid photography more often – judging by those first shots in this set you have a good eye for the moment!

Ahh, thank you for saying this, Sarah. 🙂 I don’t usually do peoplewatching though. I don’t like to be stared at either. 😉

Bestia on the bed 🙂 and Crystal are my favorites. Crystal looks like she is ready to consume that bottle on her own. And Bestia obviously knows what a pillow is for, hotel or not! –Curt

Hahaa, that bottle was mineral water, but in front of her is a Aperol spritz. 😀 Thank you, Curt. Bestia proves to be smarter than that sheep dog. 😀

It may have been a bottle of wine at our house. Grin. Yes, I would say Bestia is smart. It started with her adopting a parent that lets her sleep on pills. 🙂

On pills? 😀 And it’s a him! Bestia means beast in Italian. 😉
