CFFC: Bridges from there to here

I don’t have that many photos of bridges, thought I as I started to gather them. There were 50 in no time. Here is a (good) half of them.

I like bridges – crossing them, looking at them, looking from them, the purpose and the idea of them.

They are old and new, designed for feet, trains or cars, and in one instance taken over by sheep. First come those from Italy and then those from Slovenia, even though my path has taken me in the opposite direction. Let’s cross these bridges when we see them.

  A chance find near those sheep: Ponte dell’Abbadia in Vulci from 90 BC. That’s old.

  Another chance find: Ponte della Pia. I brake for bridges.

  From old to new. This is Ponte Settimia Spizzichino in Rome.

  Back to old. Ponte Cestio on the Tevere (or Tiber).

• 

  Still in Rome: Ponte Sisto.

• 

  The last from Rome on a winter day: Ponte Vittorio Emanuele II.

  To Pisa and the Arno river now.

• 

  The bridge so famous that no (unintentional) blur can hide it. Hint: It’s in Florence.

• 

  The bridge on the Mura river between Austria and Slovenia.

• 

  A very small bridge over nothing at the Betnava Castle near Maribor.

•

  This one is wobbly too but over the Savinja river.

  One of the rivers that fills Lake Bohinj. This is Alpine territory. It’s cold.

  The Črni Kal Viaduct is the longest and highest viaduct in Slovenia. Ferrari shot a commercial here.

  We must finish in Ljubljana, my city. Four dragons guard the Dragon Bridge and wag their tails when a virgin crosses it.

•
